- 18 = can legally get married without the consent of parents or guardians, get a credit card or loan, buy alcohol, buy cigarettes, gamble via the TAB or Instant Kiwi (it’s 20 for casinos and any age for Lotto), serve in the military, become a police officer, be charged under the adult court system, serve jury duty, vote, stand as an election candidate, and more.
