Covid vaccination status of 12+ New Zealanders as at 11.59pm on 6 March 2022:

Status # %
Fully vaccinated 4,007,184 91.8%
Partially vaccinated 59,006 1.4%
Unvaccinated 299,997 6.9%
TOTAL 12+ POPULATION 4,366,187 100%

  • 91.8% of 12+ Kiwis are fully vaccinated, not the 95-96% widely reported.
  • 8.2% of 12+ Kiwis are NOT fully vaccinated, twice the 4% figure widely reported.
  • 6.9% (300k) of 12+ Kiwis have not had any Covid vaccines.
  • The reason for these different figures is because the Ministry of Health has divided by DHB numbers, NOT the total population. We have asked them why they’ve done this, but have not received a response.

Have we been purposefully misled?

NOTES:

  • Use the Ministry of Heath’s “person view” not “operational view” so that those who have been vaccinated overseas are counted.
  • The DHB total 12+ population count is 4,209,057. Stats NZ’s total 12+ population adds up to 4,366,187. This is a 157,130 or 3.7% difference.
  • The Stats NZ Dec 2021 age-group splits gave two 12+ populations totals that were just 80 people different (4,362,480 vs 4,362,560). We averaged the difference at 4,362,520. Because this was Dec 2021 data, we needed to add net-births population growth onto this. We used the latest annual net birth data (24,198), multiplied it by the 65 days to March 6th divided by 365 days in a year, and then multiplied this by 85% being the proportion of the population that is 12+. NOTE; net birth totals have remained consistent for many years so it is fair to apportion them this way to the 12+ and <12 groups.
  • All Stats NZ population figures are best estimates, as there is no current way of working out the exact population.
  • Stats NZ 2018 Census data was not used as those population figures are now significantly out of date.
  • All numbers are provisional and subject to revision.
